The United States has never ratified the Rome Statute.
The court it helped design. The court it championed as the civilized world's answer to impunity. The court it pointed at every leader it wanted prosecuted.
It has never joined it.
More than that: in 2002, Congress passed a law, they called it, with the specific contempt that only real confidence produces, the "Hague Invasion Act."
Authorizing military force to free any American personnel brought before the International Criminal Court.
Read that again.
A law authorizing the invasion of the Netherlands.
To protect American officials from war crimes prosecution.
They built the courthouse.
They refused to enter it.
They reserved the right to destroy it if it came for them.
There is a word for a system where some people are above the law by definition.
It is not "leadership."
