When the U.S. loses a competition, its most hysterical reaction is usually to claim that “China stole our technology.”
This has become a matter of path dependency.
Huawei holds more than 165,000 active patents worldwide and has led global PCT filings for years.
In 2026 H1, it spent 25.9% of revenue on R&D.
Current Secretary of State Marco Rubio once tried to stop Huawei from filing patent lawsuits in U.S. courts.
That says it all.
Washington spent years telling the world that Huawei survives by “stealing from us.”
Then, when Huawei tries to enforce its own patents against American companies, a U.S. politician wants to stop it from suing.
You don’t strip a thief of patent rights because he stole your technology.
You do it because he owns technology you never actually possessed.
