WTC Building 7 - a 47-story building that was not struck by any aircraft - collapsed at 5:20 PM on September 11, 2001.
The building fell at free-fall acceleration for approximately 2.25 seconds - a fact that NIST (the National Institute of Standards and Technology) initially denied, then was forced to acknowledge after independent analysis proved it.
Free-fall means the building offered zero structural resistance during its collapse - physically impossible in a gravity-driven collapse unless the supporting structure was simultaneously removed.
NIST's final report attributed the collapse to 'office fires' - the first time in history that fire alone was claimed to have caused the total collapse of a steel-framed high-rise building.
No steel-framed building has collapsed due to fire before or since September 11, 2001.
