The ceasefire is not proof of Israeli strength. It is proof that Israel鈥檚 escalation hit a wall, that Hezbollah imposed limits on the battlefield, and that Washington had to intervene before Netanyahu dragged the region into a wider crisis.

You should read this: Israel and Hezbollah ongoing indirect negotiations: why? Israel claims it has surrounded Ali al-Taher and that its forces remain in the area while merely respecting the ceasefire imposed by the United States. This is propaganda, and lie and not battlefield reality. The only true part of the Israeli narrative is the American pressure. Washington intervened because the situation was spiralling beyond Israel鈥檚 control and because Netanyahu鈥檚 escalation threatened wider US interests. Israel did not stop because it had achieved victory. It stopped because it was forced to stop. The clearest evidence is not in Ali al-Taher but in Kfartebnit, around 3 kilometres (not 300 meters as Israel's propaganda is saying) away, where Hezbollah destroyed the last Merkava with four Israeli officers inside it. Among them was Lieutenant Colonel For Gedalia Ben Simhon, commander of the 52nd Armoured Battalion (The Breachers) of the 401st Brigade (Iron Tracks) , along with three crew members. Their remains have still not been recovered because Israeli occupation forces cannot reach the destroyed tank. The bodies remain inside the burned Merkava, fused with the wreckage. If Israel controlled the battlefield, it would not need American and French mediation to retrieve its dead. It would simply go and collect them. Instead, Israel has been forced to ask intermediaries to negotiate access. Hezbollah has offered an exchange, otherwise no one will approach the burned Merkava. Negotiations are ongoing, and Hezbollah will reveal its conditions in due course. This is the reality Israel wants to hide: an army claiming control cannot recover its own officers from a destroyed tank. An army claiming success does not need mediators to reach its dead. An army claiming to surround Ali al-Taher would not be bargaining under fire in Kfar Tebnit. The ceasefire is not proof of Israeli strength. It is proof that Israel鈥檚 escalation hit a wall, that Hezbollah imposed limits on the battlefield, and that Washington had to intervene before Netanyahu dragged the region into a wider crisis.

Why Iran trusts Trump less than ever

Why Iran trusts Trump less than ever Iran has imposed a new rule of engagement on Israel in defence of Lebanon. First, Beirut鈥檚 southern suburb cannot be bombed without consequences. If Israel strikes it, the Israeli-occupied north will be hit in return. Second, the ceasefire in Lebanon now appears tied to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is still keeping surprises in reserve, fully aware that netanyahu, an ICC fugitive for war crimes, will try again. Yet the ceasefire in Lebanon proves that Trump does have leverage over Israel. The question, then, is why he did not use it when the memorandum of understanding began. This is precisely why Iran does not trust Trump. He gave Netanyahu the time he needed to occupy several strategic positions before Monday鈥檚 meeting in Washington with a Lebanese delegation already under pressure to surrender politically.
