The secretary general of Peru’s National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Elar Bolaños, has resigned, alleging that his computer equipment was manipulated and that documents related to requests in the institution’s document management system were altered.
In an open letter, Bolaños states:
“There are serious issues related to the manipulation of my computer equipment with information that I neither generated nor drafted … There are many documents with altered information, which I did not generate. I am making myself available to the justice system for the corresponding investigations.”
He also warned that the compromised document management system disrupted the processing of official requests and exposed sensitive personal data, resulting in significant administrative failures.
Meanwhile, Peruvians continue protesting, and the leftist candidate Roberto Sanchez has refused to accept the election results, alleging fraud.
