Israel cannot claim to be both a "Jewish state" and a democracy while claiming to represent millions of Jews who are citizens of other countries. No other country claims to be the nation-state of people who hold citizenship elsewhere simply because they share a religion. Israel uniquely asserts that role by nationalizing the Jewish faith. That is why Jews reject the claim that the State of Israel speaks in their name. Judaism is a religion. The Zionist G-dless political movement does not represent the Jewish faith. Source
