Well, Israel has achieved the impossible. They have surpassed that level of chutzpah. Israel is SUING the The New York Times
There’s an old Yiddish joke explaining what “chutzpah” means: A boy murders his parents, then shamelessly begs the judge for mercy, because he’s an orphan.
Well, Israel has achieved the impossible. They have surpassed that level of chutzpah.
Israel is SUING the The New York Times - notoriously one of the most pro-Israel, pro-Zionist, biased and complicit publications in existence - over Nicholas Kristof’s op-ed published last Sunday exposing the depraved and sickening systematic practice of sexual abuse and rape of Palestinians by guards, IDF soldiers, and lawless settlers, in Israeli detention centers, in public, on camera, in their own homes and villages, complete with copious evidence, personal testimonies and eye witness reports, including reports from Israeli organizations, to back up all his claims.
They are suing the obnoxiously Zionist-friendly The New York Times, even though Kristof made an incomprehensible error in judgement and threw Israel a bone - aka provided pure nuclear fuel to power-up the Hasbara machine - and included a reference to the debunked and unsubstantiated allegations of systematic mass rape by Hamas on Oct 7 2023, thereby throwing into question his own credibility and that of the entire essay, a lengthy, well-researched op-ed, by a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, which referenced countless reports and statements and evidence of Israel’s depravity and obvious documented atrocities.
Apparently that wasn’t enough for the “only democracy in the Middle East”.
Another way of putting all of this: “You murdered them, then inherited their property?” (Old Testament: 1 Kings, chapter 21, verse 19).
Methinks they have no intention of going through with the entire process. Israel is seeking a quick settlement out of court, a huge amount of money paid by the New York Times, a portion of which will no doubt make its way into Netanyahu’s pockets.
I could go on but I won’t. You get the picture. There is no bottom to the abyss and no limits to Israel’s chutzpah either.

ETA: additional elements contributing to the highest chutzpah factor known to mankind:
- Netanyahu is done as Prime Minister, of this there is no doubt, and likely on his way to jail, in Israel first for numerous charges of corruption, favoritism and nepotism, then on to The Hague and the ICJ/ICC to pay for countless crimes against humanity. He has time for this baseless nonsense?
- The “new” report on sexual violence committed by Hamas on Oct 7 released in Israel the day after the op-ed was published, is already being debunked as a “cut and paste” of previously disproven unsubstantiated reports due to lack of any evidence or documentation, embarrassing both the chair of the investigating commission and Netanyahu himself.
- One could file this point under “Stupidity”, rather than chutzpah: while for most reasonable, decent people around the globe, the op-ed presented a critical watershed moment, a point of no return in terms of salvaging anything about democracy, human rights, justice, or Jewish values as practiced by the State of Israel or its society today, in Israel itself the op-ed was barely noted in any way shape or form, barely mentioned, not translated, not republished locally, and if it was, it was immediately dismissed as a cliché “blood libel” antisemitic conspiracy theory, and the only focus was that one inexplicably erroneous paragraph in which the author mentioned long debunked accusations of mass systematic rapes committed by Hamas on October 7, literally the most problematic and unsubstantiated statement in the entire essay.
- There is absolutely no basis for a defamation suit according to all legal experts, given the huge amount of evidence presented in the op-ed and acknowledgment of the accusations by those who have committed them. Many are pointing out this is a completely wasteful act which will only embarrass Israel further.
