IRAN DEAL UPDATE: Trump's "final determination" was to harden the Iran deal and send it back to Tehran... Per the NYT, citing three officials, the president toughened the terms of the framework rather than signing it. He has been especially wary of the parts that would unfreeze Iranian funds, drawing a direct line to his long standing criticism of Obama's 2015 nuclear deal. One official framed the tougher proposal as a pressure play, meant to force Iran to accept the framework already sitting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for approval. It is a gamble. The harder terms could push Iran to close fast, or they could blow up the timeline, since reaching Khamenei has been difficult and any change restarts the clock.
