US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said it’s time for the world to choose between the United States and Iran. It’s a remarkable admission of weakness and a reflection of the damage Trump has done to the US standing abroad that this is even presented as a binary choice between what was once the world superpower versus a nation that was once a global outcast. Iran’s standing in the world has been immensely increased following Trump’s catastrophic war. Iran is a vital partner of the security architecture of China and other BRICS nations now. The US security umbrella in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe is dead. It’s ironic Trump and Bessent are calling their latest economic scheme against Iran “Operation Economic Outcast,” since the US has made itself the outcast and has made Iran a real regional and global player where the US is forced to ask others in the world to choose sides.
