 Joe Kent says the U.S. military spent decades preparing for yesterday’s conflicts while China focused on the next one. 

Iran’s strategy is exposing that mismatch by attacking the logistical infrastructure supporting American forces rather than trying to destroy the fleet head-on.

“We always fight the last war.”

The broader problem, he argues, is strategic rather than technological: Washington keeps pouring money into enormous legacy systems while rivals invest in drones, missiles, counter-drone systems and mobile forces. 

And while America remains stuck fighting in the Middle East, China keeps gaining ground.
