Syngman Rhee in South Korea. American backed.
Marcos in the Philippines. American backed.
The Shah of Iran. American backed, after the CIA overthrew Iran's democratically elected prime minister.
Suharto in Indonesia. American backed, as he oversaw the massacre of somewhere between 500,000 and one million people.
America did not oppose Asian authoritarianism.
America manufactured it, funded it, armed it, and protected it from accountability when it was useful.
Your concern about Asian authoritarianism would be more credible if America hadn't spent the twentieth century installing and maintaining it.
