A coordinated push across UK politics and media to portray anti-genocide, pro-Palestine marches as anti-Semitic is being increasingly challenged, as organisers and participants reject what they describe as a deliberate attempt to discredit a mass movement opposing Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and atrocities in other countries. Speaking on Sky News, political activist John Rees said the narrative does not reflect reality on the ground. "There is no threat whatsoever to the Jewish community from these marches," he said, noting that thousands of Jewish people attend, often in organised blocs, opposing the actions of the Israeli state. He stressed that Jewish communities are not monolithic, and that many participants are actively involved in the protests. Rees also rejected attempts to link the marches to recent violent incidents in the UK, saying there is no evidence connecting individuals involved in attacks to the Palestine movement. He described the claims as "completely fallacious" and accused political leaders of "weaponising and instrumentalising claims of anti-Semitism" to marginalise opposition, as criticism grows over the UK government’s position on Israel’s actions.
