Look, my fellow Americans. This is a consistent problem, both with the US’ media landscape and the way we teach history. Plenty of Americans know about the Beirut Barracks bombing October, 1983. Markedly fewer Americans know that in the September immediately prior to the Beirut Barracks bombing, US forces violated their ‘peacekeeping’ mandate (which, prior to the incident in question, all of the combatants in the Lebanese Civil War had been largely respecting), and we both cratered a hillside full of Shia militiamen ‘who were not shooting at us’ with literal battleship artillery, and missed them and flattened a village full of Shia civilians behind them. Our own fucking idiocy was the inciting incident behind the creation of Hezbollah.

Wait, so the Beirut Bombings basically occured because our Navy ships fired some 600 (!) 70 pound shells blind into Lebanon, missed the intended Druze PLA and Syrian Army positions, and instead fired most of these shells into a Shia-Druze neighborhood, killing hundreds?! Then the x.com/AnalyticaCamil…
