Prez Trump is desperate and is in a panic! The health of the global economy could hang in the balance.
Trump realizes there is no viable ground option to quickly win the war w Iran. He now realizes he cannot win it from the air alone.
But Iran has a greater chance to endure an increased bombardment longer than Trump n Netanyahu can dish it out - but Trump CANNOT wait out the rising oil prices on an already anemic economy.
Kuwait started today to reduce production bc they have insufficient storage w Hormuz effectively closed. Other Gulf producers will follow suit soon if the Strait isn’t opened. Iran has incentive to keep it closed, putting more pressure on Trump.
In response, Trump is banking on putting more military pressure on Tehran to force them to surrender or give up. Iran may choose to call Trump’s bluff and gamble it can endure a bigger blast of bombs and missiles more than Trump can endure persistently high oil prices.
They may b right.
Trump is in a panic bc he has unwittingly handed leverage to Iran. They are already taking a beating, so it likely can’t get that much worse in the near term, meaning Trump has little more he can threaten them with beyond what he’s doing now (it was a mistake to demand unconditional surrender over the weekend, bc he took away any incentive they might have had to seek relief).
Trump made a major mistake by twice pretending to negotiate only to use it as cover to attack, bc now Iran has reason to believe any negotiations now wouldn’t b legit - and they have EVERY reason to attempt a wait out of the U.S./Israel.
This is a huge, high stakes gamble bt the two sides and the global economy is in the balance.
