Important legal reminder for the #US and #Iran that might guide their negotiations and have long term implications : Under article 52 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (coercion of state by the threat or use of force) “A treaty is void if its conclusion was procured by the threat or use of force in violation of the principles of international law embodied in the UN Charter.” Thus if the use of force or threats effectively deny a meaningful choice for a negotiating partner, any resulting agreement could be declared void ab initio (invalid from the start).
