Netanyahu Admits: Israel’s Regional War Plan Was Set Years Before October 7 Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu reminded diplomats on December 7 of what he declared just 24 hours after the Al-Aqsa Flood operation: Israel’s strategic mission is to reshape the Middle East by eliminating Hamas, Hezbollah, and ultimately Iran. He admitted that after October 7, the War Cabinet debated striking Lebanon immediately, but chose to avoid two quagmires at once. The army kept Lebanon under “active deterrence” while focusing its full firepower on Gaza, with the intention of turning north after Hamas was crushed. Meanwhile, Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot revealed that Israel’s Southern Command actually proposed a pre-emptive attack on Gaza in 2022, but the political and military leadership blocked it because preparations were underway for a much larger confrontation with Hezbollah and Iran. Israel had mapped out this roadmap well before October 7, a phased strategy to neutralize Gaza, confront Hezbollah, and ultimately move against Iran. What is unfolding today is not a spontaneous reaction or a policy born out of the hostage crisis. It is the acceleration of a strategy long prepared behind closed doors. The reality is, the mass displacement, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the widening regional escalation are not byproducts of chaos, they are the outcome of decisions made years earlier. October 7 did not create this trajectory; it merely sped it up.
