The U.S. wants to hold everyone else accountable to international law, but the moment it puts any constraint on their own policies, they claim the entire system is illegitimate. It's hypocrisy 101.

Rubio is stomping his feet and acting like a petulant teenager, declaring 'Rules for thee, but not for me!' when the rules get inconvenient. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the EU has no right to determine what constitutes international law, let alone dictate how America protects its interests. Journalist: “Well, let me, let me ask you about that. Um, she told me that they discussed the legality, and that there are two reasons why an operation would be legal: self-defense and a UN resolution. That neither of those applied in this case, that they are all struggling with the drug issue, and that they should discuss whether international law needs to be updated. So let me ask you about that.” Rubio: “I don't think that the European Union gets to determine what international law is. Nor do they certainly don't get to determine is how the United States defends its national security. The United States is under attack from organized criminal narco-terrorist in our hemisphere, and the President is responding in the defense of our country.” The EU doesn’t determine what constitutes international law. Wasn’t the U.S. a founding member of the UN and helped write the rulebook? The United States played a central role in drafting its Charter and shaping the post-WWII international order. Europe only points out to the United States that they must adhere to the UN Charter. It's the typical move: when the EU or anyone else criticises a U.S. action as potentially illegal, suddenly the U.S. is the ultimate defender of 'sovereignty' and 'national interest' against foreign dictate. But when the U.S. wants to tell other countries what to do, that's 'leadership.' The U.S. wants to hold everyone else accountable to international law, but the moment it puts any constraint on their own policies, they claim the entire system is illegitimate. It's hypocrisy 101.
