The deadlock in Gaza’s reconstruction and ceasefire talks is over Israel’s veto on the Palestinian Authority’s involvement.
A senior European diplomat put it bluntly: “All European countries think the PA should have a role in this. Yes, the PA should continue reforms. But we think the Palestinians can have a role in the disarmament process of Gaza. It is stuck. Fundamentally, Israel’s refusal to allow any PA role is a big problem. It cannot be put any other way.”
The International Stabilization Force (ISF), greenlit by the UN Security Council, is trapped in limbo because Israel won’t let the PA step in. Meanwhile, Hamas is using this time to rearm and strengthen its hold over Gaza.
