web freedom in the free world, the Z of it all
So much for the much touted freedom of the web !
Forget about the free world and the freedoms cyber space promises. Forget about the spread of unfettered information equally shared around the world wide web to create democratic societies that do not go to war because they have democracy and McDonalds. Or will have it all , even if it means enforcing it at gunpoint.
I tried to follow a link in a "western" newspaper website and came up with something that really surprises me.
CONTENT UNAVAILABLE . This video is not authorized for your location (NP)
Try to follow this link http://www.theage.com.au/tv/military/sofex-the-business-of-war-3201962.html and see if you can watch the video that my eyes, in this part of the world, are not allowed to see. You may have a " for your eyes only " authorisastion that not all eyes around the world seem to have.
Surprisingly enough, the arms fair is held right in the middle of the most volatile part of the world. The part that just happens to be the biggest market for western arms.
SOFEX takes place every two years in Amman, and is largely the brainchild of Jordan's king, Abdullah II, who has a penchant for special operations and massive displays of artillery. Over the course of a week, more than 12,000 attendees tromped around 30-odd tents staked across the desert, hosting approximately 300 vendors. The atmosphere was insidious but open, an organized free-for-all in which American companies like Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and General Dynamics sold weapons to almost anyone who could afford them.
And notice the spelling of authorised .It is the American spelling. Not the English i was brought up with. The S is now a Z .The Z at end of the alphabetic order.
