Democrats now hold the money for Israel and the war with Iran, and they have every reason to let Trump keep both
Reuters calls the midterm the start of the biggest rethink of US support for Israel in decades, and the ingredients are all there: a freshman class that ran against the aid, a generational divide that now reaches into the GOP, and Vance himself saying the relationship has to change.
January likely brings hearings on the West Bank, holds on nominees and a fight over every arms package.
But look at what a Democratic Congress actually gets paid for.
Not ending the war; investigating it.
Every committee they now chair can hold televised hearings, and a war that’s still running at $4 a gallon makes a better hearing than a war that ended in a deal.
The same majority that can cut the Pentagon’s funding can also just let the bill come due on a Republican president’s watch, two years before the next election, while his own party holds a primary in the middle of it.
That’s the trap for the White House.
The war-powers vote everyone expects never has to happen, because the veto gives Democrats the excuse and the polls give them the motive.
If this war ends before 2028, it ends because Vance or the Gulf states forced it.
