Tony Blair asked PA to erase 'Palestine' from textbooks, former UK envoy reveals
——
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair reportedly pressured the Palestinian Authority to replace all references to the word "Palestine" in school curriculums with the Biblical designation "Samaria," according to former UK Ambassador to the UN Jeremy Greenstock.
In an interview with Middle East Eye, Greenstock revealed that Blair—acting on behalf of Donald Trump's Board of Peace—traveled to Ramallah to deliver the demand to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
According to a ministerial-level source, Blair conditioned the board's recognition of the PA as a viable negotiating partner on erasing the national identifier from textbooks.
Blasting the initiative as a reflection of the board's total detachment from justice and historical reality, Greenstock noted that President Mahmoud Abbas flatly rejected the demand, stating he would do no such thing. Greenstock added that the very fact the Board of Peace could make such a request makes him question what principles the body is working on.
While Blair’s Institute for Global Change denied the request was made, the revelation coincides with an intensifying regional and international campaign by Israel and its allies to systematically purge Palestinian history and terminology from educational materials, museums, and institutions across occupied East Jerusalem, Lebanon, and the occupied West Bank.
