What the Big Three car companies did was actually far worse than just lobbying — General Motors bought up the electric transit-car systems of 46 major cities, literally destroyed them, and replaced them with GM buses. One of the casualties of GM’s sabotage was the Los Angeles interurban electric railway system—then the largest in the world.
