Here is what multipolarity actually means, translated out of the think tank language:

Other countries get to make decisions.

That's it. That's the whole "threat."

Not military invasion of the West.

Not the destruction of Western civilization.

Not even, in most cases, the end of Western prosperity, though some adjustment would be required and that adjustment would be uncomfortable.

Just: other countries get to make decisions about their own resources, their own trade relationships, their own political systems, without those decisions requiring prior approval from Washington.

That's the nightmare scenario.

Other people. Making their own decisions.

The word for that used to be sovereignty.

Now it's called a threat to the "rules-based order."
