This was 100% a war of choice, but it was Israel's choice, not ours.

In the beginning of the war, Israel's list of demands, which we pretended were American interests were - end their nuclear capabilities, regime change, destroy their whole air force and navy, destroy every ballistic missile and drone, and end their connection to their proxies.
First, what an absurd set of demands Israel put on us. Second, we accomplished almost none of them. Most importantly, we've now given up on almost all of them (Trump has even said privately that he doesn't even need to end their nuclear program, as long as they open up the Strait of Hormuz - which was open before the war), so that means they were never truly American interests.
This was 100% a war of choice, but it was Israel's choice, not ours. If these things were truly in American interests, we wouldn't think about stopping, like if the Iranians were going to take Seattle or Boston, we would fight no matter how long it took. We're willing to leave now because we never should have been there in the first place.
