OK, so we’ve blown up more stuff in Iran, and probably killed more people.
And then what?
Everybody’s so excited in Washington to talk about how many tomahawk cruise missiles were fired, how many “targets“ were serviced, and how many tough sounding statements came from the president. But what did it accomplish?
How does this further America’s war aims? Does this make it any more likely that Iran will submit to our terms? No matter what many of these war-lusters in Washington want to hear, the answer is no.
Will it make Iran any more likely to submit to terms that are different than what they’ve been saying lately, regarding the release of frozen funds or control of the SOH? Again, this almost certainly will have the opposite effect: it will drive control of the SOH further into the hands of the IRGC, and make them hold out even harder for the release of frozen funds before any consideration of diplomatic outcome.
But regarding diplomacy, the strikes may well have destroyed any shred of hope that there could have been for a negotiated settlement, because it is now clear to the Iranian side that there is no point in having any kind of discussions with the US, because all our side knows is to make demands, and when they are not met, to send missiles in response.
Therefore, the most likely outcome of these missile strikes tonight, aside from what damage we may suffer in response to a coming retaliation, is it makes an end to the war even less likely, and will continue to pile up the economic consequences to our country.
So amidst all the congratulations and backslapping and celebratory TruthSocial posts by the president, this has further drawn us into a war with no exit ramp. This will increase the cost to America, not bring the war closer to an end.
