It’s incredible that the Lebanese government refused to use the leverage bestowed on them by Iran’s insistence on a ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
Instead they chose to collaborate with the Americans and Israelis on Israel’s terms to hand Marco Rubio a tool to undermine the U.S.-Iran agreement.
Netanyahu is bragging that this is a withdrawal from two areas he doesn’t care about and it allows Israel’s occupation to continue. The Lebanese presidency is celebrating this as a win for sovereignty that will liberate Lebanese land but he’s given no details as to how. Hezbollah rejects it because it looks like total capitulation to Israel.
This is a recipe for more Israeli aggression that could torpedo an end to the bigger U.S.-Iran war.
