Ever wondered why Is-Reali citizens and Jweish settlers view Palesti..nians as terro...rists who hattes them?..
Well, here's one of the main reasons why
Israeli academic Nurit Peled Elhanan has argued that Israeli school textbooks systematically portray Palestinians as a collective threat rather than as individual human beings, raising concerns about the role of education in shaping public perceptions of the conflict.
In her book Palestine in Israeli School Books: Ideology and Propaganda in Education, the Hebrew University professor analyses history, geography and civics textbooks used in Jewish schools. She argues that the books use selective language, maps, images and historical narratives that marginalise Palestinians while presenting the Israeli occupation as morally justified.
According to Peled Elhanan, the educational material helps prepare students for compulsory military service by reinforcing state narratives about the conflict.
Her work has sparked debate within Israel, with supporters describing it as an important internal critique of the education system, while critics dispute its methodology and conclusions.
The findings add to broader discussions over how competing historical narratives are taught in Israeli and Palestinian schools and their impact on future generations.
