US Bombs Iran’s Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas

The US military has bombed a port on Iran’s Qeshm island in the Strait of Hormuz as well as the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, a US official told Fox News reporter Jennifer Griffin, in what is likely the resumption of full-scale war in the region.
The official claimed to Griffin that the US was not restarting the war and that it didn’t view bombing Iran as ending the ceasefire. The official presented the attack as a response to Iranian missile and drone attacks that hit the UAE on Monday, which came in response to President Trump announcing a new military operation to “guide” ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait reportedly restricted US military access in response to the US downplaying the attacks on the UAE, so the attack on Iran may be an effort to placate the US’s Gulf Arab allies, or it may just be presented as a response to the strikes on the UAE as a way to claim the US is restarting the bombing campaign in defense of its allies.
Iranian media is reporting that air defense has also been activated in Tehran, suggesting the Iranian capital is under attack, and that there have been fresh explosions in Bandar Abbas since the initial attack.
Earlier, an Iranian official said that Iran’s military had fired on US forces in the region after US aircraft attacked an oil tanker. It’s unclear if the official was referring to the attack on a tanker claimed by US Central Command on Wednesday or if another attack occurred on Thursday.
