Panama wanted to prove it could touch Chinese assets without cost. China is teaching the opposite lesson:

Panama really thought it could raid a Chinese-linked company, void a 30-year port concession, seize control under U.S. pressure, and then cry “sovereignty” when China stopped pretending nothing happened.
That is not diplomacy.
That is the bill arriving.
Washington pushed Panama into playing pawn.
Panama acted like being small meant being consequence-free.
Now Chinese ports are inspecting Panama-flagged vessels, delays are piling up, and suddenly everyone is screaming about “economic coercion.”
Funny.
When Panama grabbed the ports, it was “sovereignty.”
When Rubio threatened “measures,” it was “support.”
When China responded, it became “bullying.”
You cannot weaponize your courts, tear up Chinese commercial interests, hide behind Washington, and then act shocked when Beijing stops treating your merchant fleet like a neutral innocent.
Panama wanted to prove it could touch Chinese assets without cost.
China is teaching the opposite lesson:
Being small does not give you immunity.
Being America’s errand boy does not make you untouchable.
And sovereignty is not a magic word you scream after you already sold your spine.
