Washington doesn’t need to invade Cuba to turn it into a territory subjugated economically and strategically. What it seeks is to weaken it, strangle it, and leave it with no room to maneuver until placing it once again fully under the orbit of the United States.

The real reason? Maritime and energy control of the Gulf of Mexico.

Cuba is a key geographical piece. It’s positioned opposite one of the continent’s most important commercial and oil routes. Whoever has total influence over Cuba would have enormous capacity for surveillance and pressure over maritime traffic in the Gulf.

It wouldn’t literally be “another Strait of Hormuz,” because international law limits that kind of direct control. But it would allow an increase in the strategic, military, and economic capacity of the United States over the entire region, including Mexico.
