What exactly is “maximalist” about any of this?

Iran’s demands include an “end to hostilities in the region,” rather than an unreliable “ceasefire” that the US and Israel have repeatedly shown themselves willing to break in the past. This is the antithesis of the “forever war” that Trump promised Americans and then reneged on. They also call for a protocol guaranteeing safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, which a legitimate demand from a coastal state whose territorial waters are in constant use. Furthermore, they require reconstruction that could foster greater economic interdependence and prevent the recurrence of war, along with the lifting of sanctions that have lost their "raison d’être" and are a prerequisite for normalising relations with neighbouring countries. What exactly is “maximalist” about any of this?

🚨A U.S. official tells me Iran sent on Monday a 10-point response for the proposal to end the war. The U.S. official said the response was "maximalist" and unclear if it will allow moving forward to a diplomatic solution x.com/BarakRavid/sta…
