THE U.S. WAR-MAKING STRATEGY IN THE MIDDLE EAST IS BUILT ON A DANGEROUS MYTH. Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson warns that "the United States really has no options" in its war against Iran, after being sold a "bill of goods" by outside consultants who convinced the president that the assassination of Iranian leaders would cause the collapse of the government, or failing that, the application of substantial air power would force them to surrender. Both assumptions were deeply flawed from inception. Johnson warns that if the U.S. resumes combat actions against Iran, "we're basically going to destroy the Middle East oil supply," impacting Middle Eastern allies like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kwait and the UAE, as well as other allies and friends in Asia and Europe. The notion of the U.S. Navy shutting down all Iranian exports in a blockade scenario is dismissed as pure "mythology" due to massive logistical limitations. Even senior military leaders reportedly agree the current plan for the Middle East conflict is logistically unsound.
