The New York Times editorial board argued that #US President Donald Trump’s war on Iran has dealt a serious blow to American power, warning the country is now "on the cusp of a humiliating strategic defeat" following a joint war, with "Israel", driven by "gut instinct and wishfulness" rather than congressional approval, clear justification, and planning. The board outlined four major setbacks. First, #Iran has gained significant leverage over the global economy by tightening control over the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world’s energy flows. Second, the war has drained US military stockpiles, with more than a quarter of Tomahawk missiles reportedly used, exposing vulnerabilities against cheaper drone warfare. Third, it has fractured alliances, as key partners in Europe and Asia refused to support Washington and are now seeking alternatives to US leadership. Fourth, it has damaged America’s moral standing, with threats to "erase Iranian civilization" and rhetoric of "no quarter" undermining the values the United States claims to uphold. Taken together, the editorial concluded that #Trump's "irresponsibility" has not only weakened the United States but created openings for rival powers already challenging its global influence. #IranWar #WarOnIran
