The same way you stop any country whose navy is destroyed, whose air force is gone, whose ports are blockaded, whose cities are already burning, and whose government is actively seeking surrender terms. You wait. But waiting doesn't send a message to the Soviet Union about who owns the postwar world. The bombs weren't dropped to end the war. The war was already ending. The bombs were dropped to announce the American empire. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the opening statement of the Cold War, not the closing statement of World War II. This is not a fringe interpretation. This is what the documents say. This is what Eisenhower said. This is what multiple U.S. military commanders said at the time, including Fleet Admiral Leahy, who called it "barbarous" and said Japan was already beaten. So Robert, your "necessary" argument doesn't even survive contact with the people who were in the room when the decision was made. And you still haven't answered the question.

God you’re moronic and simplistic. How else would we have stopped the Japanese at that point in time? They were willing to fight to the death. Had we just stopped, they would have rebuilt and kept going. Japan doing better than US now!
