In other words, what Admiral Stavridis is saying in the post below is Iran has the US and its allies by the balls as it can permanently closed the Straits of Hormuz by mining it. Basically, Iran determines if Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar & Kuwait can ship their LNG and Oil or receive food shipment through the Straits of Hormuz where 20% of the world's LNG and 30% of the world's seaborne trade must pass through.
On top of that Iran can also get the Houthis to close the Bab al-Mandab Straits as well if it wants to which accounts for 8% and 12% of global LNG and seaborne trade respectively.
Remember once the Straits of Hormuz is closed to traffic from or for Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar & Kuwait - the LNG and oil cannot be shipped out - the Gulf states will not be able to earn USD revenue by selling energy on the world market - so they will not have the USD proceeds from the sales to invest in USD Treasury or US stocks - it will cause the interest rate to shoot up in the US and the stock market to crash.
BASICALLY IT MEANS THE DEATH OF THE PETRODOLLAR AND THE COLLAPSE OF THE US ECONOMY.
