ARAGHCHI: 'THIS IS ISRAEL'S WAR'
Since the very first day of the savage, unprovoked US-Israeli war on Iran, Donald Trump and his underlings have singularly failed to keep their story straight. Marco Rubio insinuated that Israel had dragged the US in, then reversed himself a day later. Pete Hegseth buffoonishly pantomimes a villain in a high school B-movie on a daily basis. Trump himself flip-flops by the hour, claiming to have 'obliterated' Iran's military at one moment while demanding a multinational coalition against it the next -- sometimes in the same Truth Social post. His stated war aims remain a confused hodgepodge of regime change, denuclearisation, and strategic control of Gulf oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz, which the US only lost by launching the war in the first place.
By comparison, Iran's message to the people of the United States is a model of clarity. As Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clearly spelled out at the conclusion of a 17 March interview with Al Jazeera, 'this is Israel's war, designed for Israel's interests, for those who believe in Israel first'. His nation shares a strategic interest with the masses of ordinary Americans in bringing it to a swift end, on just terms which will never allow such aggression again. And ultimately, Iran is counting not just on its own battlefield prowess but on 'the will of the American people to compel their government to take a wiser path'.
