Israel urges Iranians to revolt but privately assesses they’ll be ‘slaughtered’
This should not surprise anyone. That the Israelis would use the Iranian people as cannon fodder in their war with the Islamic Republic was crystal clear to anyone who had followed the Israeli-Iranian rivalry in a clear-eyed way. Nor can anyone reasonably expect that Israel would act in the best interest of the Iranian people. Israel pursues its own interests, full stop.
Along with the theocracy itself, far more responsibility lies with those who acted with criminal naivete about Israel's intentions and who also knew that Iranians would be slaughtered, yet still - from the safety of their homes in the US - urged their fellow Iranians to take to the streets and dutifully play the role of Israel's cannon fodder.
They did so in January, and they are doing so again this week.
