Araghchi: “We were not deceived. We knew from the beginning what possibilities existed.
We entered into talks knowing that they might have other objectives. It was completely clear with what intention and plan they came.
The question arises: Then why did we enter negotiations? To prove to the whole world that their intention was to attack the Islamic Republic of Iran and that their approach was hostile, and so they cannot claim that they requested negotiations and the Islamic Republic refused.
We negotiated to make it clear that the righteousness is on our side and to provide a final argument to the world and to our own people.
If we had not entered negotiations and war had occurred, the public might have questioned whether war could have been prevented through negotiation.”
