For decades we have been told Muslim hatred of Jews starts when they are children. Since Oct 7 politicians and journalists in Israel have gone further, repeatedly calling on Palestinian children to be killed. However, what the west has not known, is what HR critics in Israel - among them education academic Nourit Peled-Elhanan and journalist David Sheen who have long pointed this out - that indoctrination with genocidal Muslim hatred has been rampant for decades starting in classrooms when Israeli children are quite young and continues throughout their training in the IDF via Rabbis. Earlier I posted an article about moves in Israel by HR lawyers to have the AG investigate Channel 14 - a platform for journalists, politicians and others to rant incitement to genocide. Whilst none of this reported in MSM, the west is developing a better understanding of the situation on the ground from people who know it well thanks to ‘social’ media, because for decades we have only heard one side of this story. It was not uncommon for children to be indoctrinated into nationalism and to sing songs that within that culture are considered patriotic though they tip into the genocidal, in earlier times. However societal norms have changed about this practice, and whilst in previous centuries this may have been considered acceptable, today incitement to ethnic cleansing and genocide are not excused by patriotic fervour. It is an anachronism. But more importantly, a more nuanced understanding of both sides of this story is the only away to take a constructive approach to working for peace with justice. And justification by adults of the genocide of children because of indoctrination to ‘hatred’ while taking pride in indoctrinating their own children with a passion for ethnic cleansing and genocide is a double standard they have gotten away with for decades. And that is without discussing at all, the very different lives of the 2 groups of children, and how generations of slaughter, subjugation and humiliation might impact on Palestinian children.
