Delusion over conscience

The fact that this even needs explaining to you in 2026 is already part of what I am talking about. "Delusion over conscience" is when a society would rather protect its self image than face what it does to other people. It is watching bombs fall on a country you could not find on a map yesterday and telling yourself "this must be for freedom." It is hearing about sanctions that starve children and saying "I am sure they had no choice." It is needing to believe your country is the hero so badly that any fact that hurts that story gets dismissed, mocked, or blocked. When conscience speaks, it says "If this were done to us, we would call it evil." Delusion answers "If we did it, there must be a good reason." That is delusion over conscience. "Comfort over responsibility" is simpler. It is knowing your lifestyle is tied to wars, sweatshops, coups, and resource theft and deciding you do not want to know any more than that. It is cheap fuel, cheap phones, cheap clothes, and cheap food paid for by someone else's blood and soil. It is saying "I have a mortgage, kids, a job, I cannot think about this" while other parents pick up their children in pieces. Responsibility would say "My comfort is built on someone else's emergency, so I cannot pretend I am neutral." Comfort says "I did not press the button, so it is not my problem." That is comfort over responsibility. "Myth over reality" is the operating system that makes the first two possible. It is the myth that America is a force for good even when the body count says otherwise. It is the myth that your elections always offer a real choice, even when both parties vote for the same wars and the same banks. It is the myth that your laws are about "freedom" when they are written by the same interests that profit from prisons, weapons, and debt. Reality is villages turned to dust, countries shattered, economies strangled, and millions of lives reduced to statistics and talking points. Myth is the Hollywood version that turns those same events into "hard choices" and "tragic mistakes" by basically good people. When I say "myth over reality", I mean the decision to live inside that movie instead of listening to the people who live under the rubble. Put together, these are not abstract phrases for me. "Delusion over conscience" is how you sleep at night. "Comfort over responsibility" is how you keep your lifestyle untouched. "Myth over reality" is how you avoid ever asking why the same countries keep ending up under your bombs and sanctions. I do not say any of this because I think Americans are uniquely inhuman. I say it because I think they are human, and human beings are capable of incredible cruelty as long as someone gives them a story where they still feel like the good guys. That is what those three lines mean to me.
