Security Review Commission, Leland Miller, publicly argued that it would be bad if China discovered a cure for cancer, because then China would control the cure for cancer.
This is how US imperialists see the world: They would rather people continue to needlessly suffer and die if it means that the US doesn't lose its hegemony.
They do not want China to develop and innovate, even if it would objectively benefit humanity, because they think US supremacy is more important.
