"The US president announced he might punish countries that do not support his plans to take over Greenland, using force if necessary".

"The US president announced he might punish countries that do not support his plans to take over Greenland, using force if necessary". Europeans aren't used to this! It's one thing to bomb Nigeria, kidnap the Venezuelan president, destabilise Iran and arm a genocide in Gaza, but being mean to your European flunkeys is really a tad rude. For 80 years, Europe has been hanging onto Washington's coat tails, unquestioningly accepting its hegemony in exchange for a military and economic umbrella. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the material basis for NATO and the transatlantic alliance quickly withered, but the Europeans have an advanced, chronic case of Stockholm Syndrome and seem utterly incapable of asserting any strategic autonomy. Trump meanwhile appears to have very little investment in the US-Europe relationship, and simply expects European leaders to do what they're told. And if they object, they'll be punished like everyone else. Feckless clowns like Starmer, Macron and Merz are unable and unwilling to break with the Cold War paradigm. It's down to working class and oppressed communities to force the issue, standing up against the US war drive, standing up against the New Cold War, standing up against the rising tide of racism and xenophobia, developing close ties with China, Russia and the Global South, and building a new Europe fit for a multipolar world.
