BREAKING: The latest National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) drafted in the U.S. Congress would require a “continual assessment … of international state arms embargoes on Israel” — with language aimed at filling any “defense capability gaps” those embargoes create, Zeteo reports.
This means the U.S. would explicitly use federal law to step in and supply weapons to Israel whenever other countries cut off arms to halt Israel’s ongoing violations across the region.
Several countries have moved to suspend or restrict arms exports to Israel over its two-year long genocide in Gaza, including Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, and Canada, which froze new export permits while allowing existing contracts to proceed. A group of independent United Nations Human Rights Council–mandated experts, including Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, have publicly called for a full arms embargo on Israel.Quote
NEW: Buried in the defense bill is a policy to fill weapon “gaps” Israel gets as other nations embargo it.
As in: the US armed Israel’s genocide.
Nations responded by restricting arms to Israel.
Now, citing the restrictions, US may send Israel *even more.*https://zeteo.com/p/us-defense-bill-ndaa-israel-weapons-arms-embargoes
