Israel Is the Main Beneficiary of the Syria and Sydney Attacks The attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney and the attack on American soldiers in Syria appear, at first glance, to be unrelated incidents unfolding in vastly different contexts. Yet when examined politically rather than incidentally, both episodes converge on a single beneficiary: Israel. Regardless of who carried out the attacks, Israel is the party investing in them politically In Australia, the Bondi attack was swiftly framed in a manner that revived Islamophobic narratives and re-centered public discourse on the security of Jewish communities, helping Israel regain political and moral capital it had lost internationally amid the devastation in Gaza. At the same time, Israel has moved to direct blame toward Iran and Hezbollah, folding these incidents into a broader narrative of regional threat escalation. By doing so, Israel appears to be laying the groundwork for international legitimacy for a wider confrontation, one that would require diplomatic backing, security cooperation, and tacit approval from allied states. Framing disparate acts of violence as components of a single hostile axis serves to consolidate global support, normalize the prospect of another war, and shift responsibility for regional instability onto Tehran and its allies, while simultaneously drawing key partners into the conflict, including the United States, Australia, and multiple European states whose political, military, and intelligence cooperation would be essential for any sustained escalation. In Syria, the attack on U.S. forces feeds into a broader pattern of managed instability, resurrecting the logic of ISIS-era chaos to justify renewed American military involvement and deepen fragmentation across the Levant, with spillover risks extending into Iraq and Lebanon. Taken together, these incidents serve Israel’s strategic interests: reshaping Western public opinion, legitimizing expanded U.S. intervention, and obstructing the regional advance of rival powers, while pushing the region further toward division and prolonged conflict.
