Iran presses UN for accountability after US admits role in June attacks —— Iran’s ambassador to the UN has reaffirmed Tehran’s “full and unequivocal” right to seek accountability and compensation from the US following Washington’s acknowledgment that its F-35s entered Iranian airspace during June’s attacks. In a letter to the UN secretary-general and Security Council president, Amir Saeid Iravani said the admission aligns with US president Donald Trump’s recent claim that he was “very much in charge” of the joint Israeli-American operation targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. Iravani argued that these statements establish the criminal responsibility of US officials for the internationally wrongful act of aggression. He stressed that Iran reserves the right to pursue all legal avenues to obtain reparations for the loss of life and damage inflicted during the June assaults, which killed more than 1,000 people and struck civilian infrastructure and nuclear sites in violation of the UN Charter, the NPT, and international humanitarian law. The envoy said Washington is obligated under international law to provide full reparation and urged the UN not to remain silent in the face of the US’ “own admissions.” Iravani also called on the UN to take concrete steps to hold both the US and Israel accountable for breaching Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He noted that the 12-day campaign included deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian objects, underscoring what he described as grave violations that demand an international response.
