The deal — crafted by Egypt and Qatar and approved by Hamas on August 18 — would see the release of 10 captives and the bodies of 18 others during a 60-day truce, followed by talks on a permanent ceasefire. It closely resembles an earlier U.S. proposal pushed by envoy Steve Witkoff, but Netanyahu’s government has shown no interest, prioritizing the illegal capture of Gaza City.
Unnamed officials told Channel 12 the cabinet views destroying Hamas and seizing Gaza as “the only option.” “Hostage Families” condemned the move, saying Netanyahu is sacrificing them “completely against the will of the [Israeli] people.”
