Many Jews are rightfully worried about the rise of antisemitism in the world today. We are seeing an incredible amount of violence and incidents worldwide. Antisemitism has always been a fact of life. But there are ways we can ameliorate its rise. Here are some steps Israel and the Jewish community could take to do this: Israel should: 1) Stop the genocide in Gaza. 2) Prosecute Netanyahu and all other perpetrators. 3) End the occupation. 4) Compensate the victims. 5) Take responsibility for the Nakba and open a truth and reconciliation committee. 6) Give Palestinians citizenship. 7) Guarantee the right of return or compensate those who do not return. 8) Punish and deter the settlers responsible for terrorism. The Jewish communities in the diaspora should: 1) Disavow the genocide. 2) Cut ties with Israel until it does. 3) Launch programs for interfaith dialogue with the Muslim community in order to turn over a new leaf. 4) Fight all attempts to silence and deport those who work against the genocide. 5) Supporting grassroots peacebuilding initiatives. 6) Advocating for policies that resist all forms of hate, including antisemitism and Islamophobia, recognizing how these often intertwine. If we take these steps, we will have done much to fight the rise of antisemitism. Then other communities will join us, seeing that we are not just hypocritically seeking our own benefit, but trying to benefit humanity more widely.
