A court has ruled that the seizure of journalist Asa Winstanley’s electronic devices in a raid on his home by UK “counter-terrorism” police last year was patently illegal and an attack on the rights of journalists.
Judge Lucraft said: “The Court would be hard-pressed to find a more obviously unlawful order than the one made [by the police] in this case.”
It is known that the police targeted Winstanley over his public posts on Twitter and did so on the directions of “a UK-based counter extremism think tank” – almost certainly one of the Israel lobby groups he has been exposing in his journalism for the past several years.
Winstanley writes: “I have spent the last 15 years reporting in detail on many pro-Israel organisations in the UK — including the Community Security Trust, which has close ties to both to Israeli intelligence agencies and to the British police.”
