Birju Dattani, a respected human rights scholar, was forced to resign as Canada’s Chief Human Rights Commissioner before even stepping into the role. Why? Because he criticized Israeli policies—and that was enough for a smear campaign to brand him antisemitic.
No evidence of antisemitism.
An independent investigation cleared him.
Yet, political pressure and media attacks forced him out.
This isn’t just about Dattani. It’s about a growing crackdown on free speech, where advocating for Palestinian rights can cost you your career. Meanwhile, those dehumanizing and justifying violence against Palestinians remain untouched.
