The Israeli occupation army announced on Friday that it had started an investigation after video clips showing soldiers pushing bodies from the roof of a building in the occupied West Bank circulated online.
The clips, which began circulating on Thursday, showed three soldiers on the roof of a building in the town of Qabatiya, dragging, shoving, throwing and, in one case, kicking the bodies of Palestinians from the roof of the building.
Zakaria Zakarneh, the uncle of one of the martyrs and a witness, shared that Israeli soldiers climbed to the roof after the Palestinians were martyred: “They tried to move the bodies down with a bulldozer, but it didn’t work, so they threw them from the second floor down to the ground. I was in pain, very sad and angry. I was unable to do anything.”
The location shown in the videos was the town of Qabatiya, and the date of the incident was confirmed by eyewitness accounts and other footage filmed by Palestinian news organisations showing the same scenes.
The White House announced on Friday that what the Israeli soldiers did was deeply “disturbing” and confirmed that it had requested an explanation from Israel.
“We’ve seen that video, and we found it deeply disturbing. If it’s proven to be authentic, it clearly would depict abhorrent and egregious behaviour by professional soldiers,” US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby denounced.
